Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) Smear Examination

Specimens (such as sputum) are pre-treated with NaOH and then concentrated using a centrifuge. The supernatant is discarded, and the concentrated specimen is then applied onto a slide using a pipette. This method has a higher positive detection rate compared to direct smear examination and is crucial for detecting low levels of bacilli in culture tests and other examinations.
